Words to Live By

I’m a sucker for a good quote or motto; once they are engrained in my mind, they pop into my head like little blessings in times of need. Because of that, I find myself reading books of quotes (the Books of “Useless Information” are kind a drug to me). The two phrases above have been the lock screen and home screen images on my phone for the last couple months.

Tonight it popped into my head that most the quotes I hear are either lyrics from rap songs or said by the lovely miss Marilyn Monroe. As clever as they are, I don’t find them relatable to our lives. The written (or spoken) word is a gift that allows us to communicate what we feel with our peers. Lets be honest, we all aren’t waking up in new Bugatti’s with Givenchy DNA, we have ups and downs which means we need encouragement. So… I pulled together some of my favorite phrases and quotes to encourage you in your everyday life.

“Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.” Buddah

“You have enemies  Good. That means you stood up for something sometime in your life.” Winston Churchill

“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line” Lucille Ball

“Keep your face in the sunshine and you cannot see the shadows.” Helen Keller

“When you’re following your inner voice, doors tend to eventually open, even if they mostly slam at first.” Kelly Cutrone

“Do the right thing, it will gratify some people and astonish the rest.” Mark Twain

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” Eleanor Roosevelt

“The world breaks everyone, and afterward, some are stronger at the broken places.” Ernest Hemingway

…. and lastly

“Let no one come to you without leaving better and happier.” Mother Teresa

Moral of the story: don’t focus on yourself. The energy you put out into the world will reflect in your own life. Be kind to everyone you meet because you don’t know what they are going through. Be that pillar of hope and beacon of light for the people still finding their way. My advice, follow your heart and lead by example, people will gravitate towards your energy.
